Twitter with controlled (short) URLs
Submitted by filip on Tue, 08/12/2009 - 03:04
Description
Put a Twitter-button at the bottom of nodes of your choice. When pressing the button, a shortened URL is constructed by your website, en send to Twitter. The advantage is that the short URL preserves your brand.
Modules needed
Although shorten and shorturl appear to have almost the same name, the modules have different functions. shorturl let you construct short url's like bit.ly, is.gd, tinyurl.com etc. on your own system, shorten gives it through to Twitter.
Workflow
- Download the modules to your site
- Enable the modules. (Tweet, Shorten and Record Shorten under 'other', Short URL under 'development')
- Set permissions for shorten (Administrator). The other modules don't have permissions to set.
- Configure tweet.
- Configure shorten: Untick Use "www." instead of "http://". Set Service to 'This site (make sure you enabled shortURL before) and Backup Service to none.
- Test it out
